Developing a religious response to global warming

Two new benefits for our members

Individual and congregation members can now take advantage of two new benefits.

Discounts on energy-efficient products.

IPL has partnered with EFI, a premier source of money-saving, energy-efficient products. You can look at the available products by visiting the website www.shopipl.org . In order to qualify for a 10% discount on the listed prices, simply become a member of RI-IPL. Membership is free  and can be gotten at our website www.riipl.org.

This is a good time to get an energy audit of your place of worship or home. Contact RI-IPL and let us help make the arrangements. Then when you’re ready to make purchases of items such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), which pay for themselves in short order and help control climate change, we can help you get a good price.

New Dawn Earth Center

The unique New Dawn Earth Center, which conducts interfaith nature programs at its location in Cumberland,  has joined RI-IPL as a faith organization. They are offering to RI-IPL member congregations,  programs limited to a single congregation. Would your congregation’s families enjoy a reminder of Creation’s beauty through a Sunset/Moonrise Hike?

Remember, membership in RI-IPL is free. See our website www.riipl.org.

For further information regarding the programs of New Dawn Earth Center, visit www.newdawnearthcenter.org (after August 20) or call 333-1341.

Visit our website!

We have a start-up website now at www.riipl.org. Along with membership information, we have a complete list of membership benefits, and access to the ShopIPL website. Announcements of events will be posted as well as items of interest to the faith-based community, such as climate change-related legislation and policy development that we should be aware of.

Policy formation

Our Advocacy workgroup has been working hard to formulate policy positions that would minimize the impact of global warming legislation on our  vulnerable low-income residents. You will hear more about it as it becomes finalized.

Upcoming Events

This being Rhode Island, we slow down in the summer. We do have a Steering Committee meeting on Tuesday July 31, 5 pm, at 184 Broad St, which is the office of the Roman Catholic Diocesan Social Ministry. All are welcome to attend.

Also, keep watch for an announcement of a faith community climate change conference in the fall.
